UK Online Casino Industry Battles Fraud

A UK payment company is warning operators and players of the problem of fraud. The online casino industry in the UK lost more than 20 million pounds in one year to credit card theft and other types of identity fraud. But what can operators do to keep up with computer-savvy fraudsters? Online casino operators are more than aware of the fraud issue. Most claim that they deal with it in one way or another every single day. Operators are constantly updating their software to try to stay ahead of fraudsters. The problem is that cheaters are good with computers and new technology is making it easy for them to hack into a casino’s system and take players’ credit card and other personal information. Credit card (and any other types) of fraud are both scary and frustrating. It wastes peoples’ time, money and costs the industry more money than it should. In fact, fraud costs companies approximately two to three percent of their revenue every year which shows that no industry is immune. Online casino operators spend a lot of time and money trying to combat fraud and besides constantly upgrading their software to stay ahead of fraudsters, there is not much they can do. The cost to players is actually quite minimal. If fraud can be proved, players can expect to be fully compensated for their losses; however the same is not true for casinos. There is often no way to counteract the losses they accrue.
